  • What is the difference between galvanized and galvalume steel?

    Galvalume uses a mix of aluminum and zinc to protect against rust. Galvanized uses zinc only. Over a long period of time (more than 10 years), galvalume is projected to outlast galvanized in various atmospheres. It also has a better heat resistance.

  • What type of stainless steel does Olympia use?

    304 grade stainless steel is commonly used in the venting industry. Our 2100 chimney, flexible and hybrid liners, as well as the inner portion of our double wall stove pipe or pellet vent are all made of 304 stainless steel. 304 has a high nickel content and is superior in most respects, including resistance to corrosion, weld ability, and cold forming ability.

  • Should I choose galvanized/galvalume steel or stainless steel?

    In fact, it depends of what will flow inside the steel part. In the case of venting systems (ex.: chimney, liner), stainless steel is mandatory and/or recommended since combustion products are making their way through them. All support components exposed to the weather should ideally be made of stainless steel. On the other hand, galvanized steel is often used for hot air distribution systems. Support components that are installed inside the house can be in galvanized steel. Galvanized steel will also offer a good resistance to outside conditions, but over a long period of time, it is inferior to stainless steel. If your house is located close the ocean, in a more corrosive environment, it is highly recommended to use stainless steel components.

  • What is the difference between 304 L and 316 Ti stainless steel?

    All liner pipes are made of prime stainless steel but depending of the application, we will put forward a type of steel. In fact, 304L is fully sufficient for wood and pellet burning appliances, but it is preferable to use 316Ti stainless steel for all fuels (oil, gas, coal). Indeed, the 316Ti contains an additional component, molybdenum, which increases the corrosion resistance of the product and thus, offers a better protection.
